Change, such as the loss of a loved one, career and lifestyle changes, illness and injury, is a common cause of stress for most people. However, it's the pressure and tension we feel in response to the everyday events such as traffic jams, waiting in line, work overload, reading the news, which build up over time and do most of the damage to our internal physiology.
Stress affects people physically, mentally and emotionally. According to the American Institute of Stress, up to 90% of all health problems are related to stress. Too much stress can contribute to and agitate many health problems including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, depression and sleep disorders.
The fact is, that we will never eliminate stress from our lives.Today, many people are looking to non-pharmacological alternatives for a variety of medical and mental health concerns. Through the use of self-management, people can assume responsibility for contributing to the resolution rather than feel helpless and powerless.
I'm interested in hearing about what others are doing to manage their stress and if they are finding balance in their lives.
